Information Density: Why Word Count is a Metric of the Past

Information Density: Why Word Count is a Metric of the Past

The Death of Word Count

In the old SEO playbook, longer was better. We stretched 500 words of actual value into 2,000-word monstrosities filled with fluff and repetition just to appease the keyword-density algorithms. We trained ourselves to write low-density text because search crawlers rewarded the volume of matching strings.

What is Information Density?

AI models flip this paradigm. They are trained to maximize "information density", the ratio of novel facts, unique reasoning, and specific insights to the total word count. A highly dense 300-word paragraph that succinctly answers a complex question is infinitely more valuable to a Large Language Model than a 3,000-word article repeating the same basic premise.

Stop Stuffing, Start Distilling

When an AI model is compiling an answer for a user, it looks for the most efficient, authoritative source of truth. Fluff actively harms your chances of being cited. The goal is no longer to keep the user reading your page; the goal is to provide the AI with the most potent, concentrated information possible.
