You Cannot Fix What You Do Not Measure
Your buyers are already asking ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini which products to use. If you do not know what those answers say about you, you are flying blind in the fastest-growing discovery channel. Here is how to check, starting with the free manual method.
The Manual Method (Free, About 30 Minutes)
Open each major AI assistant and ask the questions your customers actually ask. Good probes include:
- "What is the best tool for [your category]?"
- "Which companies offer [your key feature]?"
- "Compare [your brand] to [your main competitor]."
- "What do people say about [your brand]?"
Write down three things for each answer: whether you appear at all, how you are described, and which competitors get recommended instead. That third column is your gap list.
What to Watch For
Being mentioned is not the same as being recommended. An AI might list you as option four of five, describe your pricing wrong, or attribute your best feature to a competitor. Each of those needs a different fix, from clearer positioning on your site to better third-party coverage.
Also check both knowledge modes. Some answers come from what the model learned during training, others from live retrieval. If you show up in retrieval but not in training knowledge, your recent content is working but your long-term footprint is thin. The reverse means you have history but weak fresh content.
The Problem With Manual Checks
Manual spot checks go stale fast. Models update, retrieval indexes refresh, and a competitor's content push can displace you in a week. A check you ran in January tells you nothing about March. You also cannot scale manual probing across dozens of buyer questions and three or more AI models.
Automate It
Our brand monitoring dashboard runs your buyer questions against ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini on a schedule, then tracks your mentions, sentiment, and share of model over time. You see exactly when visibility moves and which content change caused it.
Start Today
Run the manual method once this week to get a baseline. Then score your most important page with our AI citeability tool to find the gaps that keep you out of the answers. Once you know your baseline, monitoring keeps you honest.
